After all, the invitations are the first impression a guest will have of your wedding. Here are a few tips to help you select and send the bridal invitations that are just right for your occasion.

First, the invitations should fit within the overall theme and tone of the wedding. For example, if your wedding will be a very formal affair, do not send out bridal invitations that are casual. This will set the wrong tone for your wedding and may even lead to social embarrassment for the guest if he or she dresses inappropriately. Many brides and grooms try to work in the theme or color scheme for their wedding into the invitations. Be sure that you include all the essential information about your wedding or shower on your bridal invitations. It is surprisingly easy to leave out vital information from invitations, so make sure you check to see that your invitation includes information like where the event is, what time it starts at, who the event is being hosted by, and any relevant information about directions, parking, or other special information. Much of this extra information can be conveyed in an accompanying card, rather than directly on the invitation itself. You should also take care to ensure that the information presented is correct. Have someone proofread the invitation for spelling and information errors before sending them out. The last thing you want is to have to send out another batch of invitations because you stated that the wedding started at 5:00, rather than 5:30.

Finally, you will want to consider the appropriate time to send out your bridal invitations. Obviously, it goes without saying that your guest list should be complete well in advance of your planned invitation mail date. If you have many out of town guests attending your wedding, it may be wise to send your invitations around eight weeks in advance of your wedding date. Alternatively, it has become popular to send out save-the-date cards approximately six months in advance of your wedding date. These save-the-date cards allow people to make travel arrangements in advance and clear their calendar for your big day. If most of your guests are local, save-the-date cards are not necessary and your invitations should be sent out approximately six weeks in advance of your wedding date.
