Supermarket Wedding Favors

If your wedding budget is getting a little stretched & those gorgeous gourmet coffee wedding favors you had your eye on are now little more than a pipe dream, then read on.

By browsing around your local supermarket you can put together some stunning wedding favors, for next to nothing and no-one would know where they came from!

Here are a few ideas to inspire you:

Miniature Jars of Marmalade

Little jars of marmalade or preserves are a popular favor, particularly for a seasonal wedding in summer or fall. Buy these from a wedding favor store and you will probably pay around $2 each for them. Find the same from your local supermarket & you will pay around $0.90 each for them, less than half the price.

You can personalize the labels too. Search online for a label manufacturer who can supply you with sheets of labels the right size for the jars and which you can run through your home printer. Soak the original labels from the jars and add you own in their place. Make a note of the ingredients & any other important information on the jar as you may like to include these on your labels.

Larger Jars of Honey, Marmalade or Preserves

This really follows on from above. From a favor store you can expect to pay around $5 a jar for these, but your supermarket will probably sell them for under $2, again a significant saving. As above you can personalize the labels with your names & wedding date.

Gourmet Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate

1.75oz Sachets of coffee from a favor store can cost around $1.65 for a sachet big enough for 8-10 cups. Buy 8oz packets of coffee from your supermarket for around $3 & you will have enough for 5 favors. Weigh them into little aluminum tins and add a personalized label to the top.

Buy loose leaf tea from the supermarket for around $2 and place in small tins as above. Hot chocolate or cocoa powder can be decanted into small glass jars and finished with a personalized label.

Soaps, Bath Salts and Beauty Products

Many supermarkets will carry a good choice of beauty products including organic & scented lines. Choose a large packet of bath salts and decant into paper sachets or small bottles. You can do the same for lotions, bath foam and specialist spa products. Miniature soaps look lovely in small organza bags, whilst larger bars look nice tied with sisal string and a handmade tag.

Chocolates

It goes without saying that you will find a big range of chocolates, from bars to luxury truffles, all of which are perfect for boxing up as wedding favors. The saving you will make on buying from the supermarket as opposed to purchasing handmade chocolates elsewhere will be huge and your guests will probably never tell the difference!

Other items

Supermarkets these days carry much more than just groceries. So take your time to look thought every department. Other items to consider for wedding favors are candles, photograph frames, coasters, half bottles of wine, stationery, plants and seeds.

Browsing the supermarket shelves may give you plenty of inspiration for creating wonderfully unique wedding favors at a fraction of the cost of those from a specialist favor store.
