I need to dye a white shirt an ivory color with tea bags, how long should I leave it in?
It depends on the strength of the tea you make. Just leave it in until it is about twice as dark as you want it to be. It will fade quickly the first few times you wash it before the color stabilizes. Just soak it in hot tea to twice as dark as you want, rinse in cold water. Machine wash as usual until it fades to the right color then cook it in the dryer to set it. Hopefully it's a natural fiber as synthetics don't take as well. I think salt helps lock in color if I remember correctly. Look up tie dying and see if they use salt and at which point. (in the dye or in the rinse?) My memory is a bit grey on that.
