If you buy a piece of jewelry that is 14k gold PLATED, is it the same as putting 14K gold in your piercing?
I just bought a belly button ring that was 14K gold plated. I don't know if it's the same thing as 14K gold. I only have been putting white gold or gold into my piercing because i'm afraid of cheap metals. Is this safe?
p.s. I have had this belly button piercing for 7 months and am sure it is healed.
Careful with this one. Gold plating is an electrical process and not "dipped." Plating can wear off and expose the base metal. Depending on what that base metal is, you may have a reaction to it.
It is not the same as 14K. Platings vary with thickness. Gold filled is essentially the same thing.
Plating is a "layer" of gold over another metal. It's usually not stainless steel as this is a more expensive process.
Unfortunately, earrings are not a good test as most have 14K posts. Do you have any other reactions to plated metals?
